all alone in the early morning
well back at home there i go again
it's all true i'm not reaching
or taking any great leaps or stance
or going out and seeing anything
and if i do i just see dark waves tumbling
and swaying trees and flying bats
well ain't that something

well who is making everything feel like some big mystery
with the moon and distant howling
cutting cross the field behind the house
days are shorter now its after seven pm
home to diner now with all your animal friends
tonight im gonna try to do some reading before bed
in the hopes that my sleep will be less trouble then

and i'll spend my life up this way
