Letra de December, January - Ruin and Strange Worship
we fight hard through a long winter
where the rains come and don't stop falling for weeks

and the soil goes weak between our feet
and our houses fall into themselves like pumpkins on porches.
there comes a thick silence,
ruin and strange worship,
mushrooms going in rings in the yard.
so our friends dance in black light lit backrooms, pilled-up and shaky,
where they stay drunk all week,
and then try and climb up from the bottle,
but in the bottle they swim
until they're goldfish and thoughtless.

we sit at the bar in the mexican restaurant and drink tequila shots.
we talk of tribulation and thanksgiving,
stone charms and good-luck spells.

on the TV above the bar it's war news
of men with beards and white robes
and men blasting across desert sunsets in jet planes
with murder thick as gunsmoke in the air.
so i take my shot and feel it make heat in my chest
while TV bombs pop green in night-vision's view.
my eyes go blurry and a car commercial comes on
and it's a singer's voiceover and he's singing god bless the usa.

his voice rattles the bar tops and tables and light fixtures
singing god bless the usa.
well god bless the usa.
