I've got a story to tellAnd though I'm not sure what it isI'm sure it's funny as hellAnd tragic and dramaticAnd personal and universalIt's about a boy with stars in his eyesOr, maybe just a man whoseDreams were never realizedWhichever one it isIt's essential I get it just rightBecause we are great Americans! Our novels need to be writtenMy point of view must be heardI'll set my soapbox on the mountaintopAnd bark out every wordAnd the echoes will bellow and billowOver this great EarthOr, am I missing the point?A view from the topCould overlook the hoi polloiIn the trenches with the henchmenIs the benchmark of experienceBecause we are great AmericansLetras de cancionesOur novels need to be writtenAnd then the book becomes a filmAnd then the film becomes A modern masterpiece (This is my acceptance speech)And when our bones are burned to ashesAnd great, great grandkids are doing acidThey'll give two shits about all thisInsipid brillianceBut don't get angry, don't get discouragedOur constant efforts are more than worth itWe have our voicesSingularly we sing:"Yes, we are great Americans! Our novels need to be written!"So what if they end up with a microficheAt least they landedIn the annals of our librariesAnd then the book becomes a filmAnd then the film becomes A modern masterpiece(This is my acceptance speech) From Letras Mania
