Letra de Leap Year
on the 29th of April
I jumped the banister
to get a closer look
brushed the edge of her black-veiled bonnet
she whispers in my ear
"please, I cannot stand the pain
all my friends are under glass
tell me will I ever see them again"

early wednesday morning
the snow will turn to rain
I cross the bridge with its pinwheeled spires
and stop halfway to stare out
footprints in fresh snow
running shore to shore and back again
tracing crazy patterns on the almost melted river

courage! courage, enfants, courage
courage! courage, enfants, et bon voyage

here one week today
the boy will sprint through lanes of traffic
leap and realize midair
he's made a terrible mistake
his rescuer will find
no, nothing, never mind
a medal for his valour
and a new pair of running shoes

I will cross the cemetery
hurry past the condominiums
up the gentle rise to your front door
through the heart of this leap year
